Many times when I visited friends' places with children, I can most the time see that they have too many toys. The friends most the time said "aiya, few bucks only ma..." and ended up buying too many and become waste.
Kids in the 80s were unlike kids nowadays where they (most of them) can get what they want from parents easily. I think because of this, they tend to forget what "hard earn" is about.
During the clean-up project, I found this old toy gun of mine. See how old it is already? I think over 20 years.

Broken? Not a problem, tape it back.
Missing strap? Not a problem, make my own strap.
Cracked cover? Not a problem, make the spark through the cover even cooler.
Softdrink rubber piece from caps: I don't know how we played the game already. I think it is something like flipping or pushing away others' pieces by slapping the surface with arching palms. See we even have "secret weapon" - self drawn pieces.

Back then, we didn't get a new toy easily unless there is a really good reason to get one (like when we made to #1 spot in school). I don't know if this is just my family or most of us came through this? Yet I know I came through this well and I like the idea (call me old school). My children (one day in the future) will probably have to fight through their childhood with this hard neck father.
